Soul City Series 12 story line focuses on primary health care accountability and illustrates the new health care delivery model of community health workers attached to a district service.
The community engagement projects focus on strengthening clinic committees and community based monitoring of health services. Clinic Committees are an important link between communities and their primary health care facility. The Community Based Monitoring programme trains community volunteers to monitor the quality of care at clinics and health centres.
These initiatives are supported by an advocacy campaign which encourages community involvement in the health care facilities, and the passing of enabling legislation at a provincial level for the smooth functioning of clinic committees.
