In the wake of the recent State of the Nation Address, some young leaders from our Feminist Leadership Academic Centre (FLAC) Fellowship have come forward with clear, thoughtful, and urgent demands for national accountability. Their messages reflect the lived realities of many South Africans especially young people navigating barriers to education, employment, safety, and economic opportunity.
The recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) once again gave us chit chat, gave us umbeko that was reheated ( reheated rhetoric) , attempted to make us think they have elevated the issue of South Africa’s water crisis. Yet for millions of South Africans, this crisis is not new, nor is it temporary. It has been a daily reality for years one that exposes the deep inequalities, governance failures, and structural poverty that continue to define life for many households.
Johannesburg, February 2026 – This February, as we observe Reproductive Health Month and STI & Condom Week, the Soul City Institute for Social Justice (SCI) is proud to be on the ground, working directly with young people and communities to break the silence around sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). As an intersectional feminist organisation that has reached over 80% of South Africa for more than two decades, we remain committed to ensuring that girls, young women, and gender minorities can live with dignity, exercise self-determination, and access the health and well-being they need to reach their full potential.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in South Africa remains a daily reminder that women, children, persons living with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ individuals are not safe in our country. This reality is reflected in the rising numbers of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) cases reported each year.
Thabazimbi, Limpopo – The Soul City Institute for Social Justice (SCI), in partnership with The Ward Foundation, Lovelife, SUDI, Anova Health Institute, Northam Victim Empowerment (NVE), the Department of Social Development Limpopo (DSD Limpopo), the South African Police Service (SAPS & FCS Unit), the Department of Health, Thabazimbi Local Municipality, traditional and religious leaders, youth structures, Community Policing Forums, and ward committees and funded by the SIOC-Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) will host a three-day programme from 03–05 December 2025 to commemorate 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Johannesburg, South Africa — The Soul City Institute (SCI) is proud to launch its 2025 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, reaffirming its commitment to building safer, more just environments for young people across the country.

This collaboration brings together two leading organisations in the fight against GBV in South Africa, combining TEARS Foundation’s survivor-focused response with Soul City’s strong legacy of feminist advocacy and social mobilisation.
