Social mobilisers (x2) – Gauteng Ekurhuleni East (Daveyton & Etwatwa) – Fixed term assignment (reporting to Programmes Officer)

To assist and/or support the programme officer to implement the NDOH and SCI programme strategy at district and provincial level to achieve the set youth programme objectives, which includes coordinating and supporting the implementation and monitoring of HAST youth-related project plans and Soul Buddyz Clubs in relevant districts.

Key responsibilities

Demand creation

  • Support the HAST/MCWH/HP team in educating youth on SRH, HIV prevention, and gender-based violence prevention.
  • Mobilise young people through events that promote HIV testing, PrEP uptake, and other SRH services.
  • Drive demand via outreach programmes, radio, and community events.
  • Conduct health talks and community dialogues at key health facilities.
  • Distribute IEC materials to youth on a continuous basis.
  • Assist the district DOE in setting up Soul Buddyz Clubs.

Co-ordination and monitoring of projects

Soul Buddyz Clubs

  • Lead club recruitment and registration.
  • Implement advocacy efforts through the Raising Voices coalition with local and provincial government.
  • Collect club registration forms and attendance registers.
  • Distribute resources to clubs and ensure consistent weekly meetings.
  • Plan and develop club activities alongside the programme officer.
  • Facilitate in-person and remote coaching sessions twice a month.
  • Maintain records of all coaching and club activities.
  • Identify and mitigate issues affecting member participation.
  • Track member attendance and support club visibility on social media.
  • Prepare and submit monthly progress reports.

Youth Zones / AYFS

  • Work with the programme officer to support AYFS Champions using AYFS monitoring tools.
  • Track referred clients for SRH services and PrEP uptake.
  • Help organise quarterly youth campaign events linked to the NDoH calendar.
  • Ensure compliance with Soul City and DoH M&E standards for data collection.
  • Compile data and report monthly using standard M&E templates.
  • Capture and share visual/audio content with the communications team.
  • Report progress monthly to supervisors.

Stakeholder management

  • Identify key community stakeholders who can support club objectives.
  • Engage and network with local partners to support club visibility and success.
  • Facilitate meetings between clubs and local influencers or authorities.

General

  • Prepare reports in the correct format when required.
  • Collaborate closely with the programme officer to integrate efforts into broader projects.
  • Explore new strategies and innovations to meet programme targets.
  • Monitor club participation and reduce dropout risk.

Qualifications and experience

  • Matric qualification is required; post-matric qualification is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of gender, youth, and children’s issues is essential.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in community mobilisation or activism.
  • Knowledge of and passion for advocacy and gender equality.
