Social mobilisers (x2) – Free State Mangaung Metro (Bloemfontein & Wepener) – Fixed term assignment (reporting to Programmes Officer)

To assist and/or support the programme officer to implement the NDOH and SCI programme strategy at district and provincial level to achieve the set youth programme objectives, which includes coordinating and supporting the implementation and monitoring of HAST youth-related project plans and Soul Buddyz Clubs in relevant districts.

Key responsibilities

Demand creation

  • Support the HAST/MCWH/HP team in educating young people on SRH, HIV prevention, and gender-based violence prevention.
  • Mobilise youth for HIV testing, PrEP uptake, and SRH services through calendar events.
  • Create demand through community events, radio, and outreach across various platforms.
  • Conduct health talks and community dialogues in selected facilities.
  • Distribute IEC materials continuously to young people.
  • Support the rollout of Soul Buddyz Clubs with the district DOE.

Co-ordination and monitoring of projects

Soul Buddyz Clubs

  • Recruit and register Soul Buddyz Clubs.
  • Lead Raising Voices advocacy efforts with local and provincial government.
  • Collect registration forms and attendance registers from clubs.
  • Provide tools to clubs and ensure regular meetings and reporting.
  • Work with the programme officer to plan monthly/quarterly club activities.
  • Run face-to-face and remote coaching sessions twice monthly.
  • Document all coaching sessions and club activities.
  • Identify and address club participation challenges.
  • Monitor attendance and support club visibility on social media.
  • Prepare and submit monthly progress reports.

Youth Zones / AYFS

  • Support the AYFS Champion with implementing Youth Zones in health facilities using monitoring tools.
  • Track SRH referrals, screenings, and PrEP uptake at facilities.
  • Help organise quarterly youth campaigns based on the NDoH calendar.
  • Ensure proper data collection and reporting aligned with Soul City and DoH M&E standards.
  • Compile data in monthly reports using approved templates.
  • Capture and share multimedia content with the communications team.
  • Submit monthly reports to supervisors.

Stakeholder management

  • Identify stakeholders who support club objectives.
  • Build relationships with local partners to promote club initiatives.
  • Arrange meetings between clubs and key decision-makers.

General

  • Submit reports using the correct templates when required.
  • Collaborate with the programme officer to align club activities with Soul City programmes.
  • Explore innovative ways to meet programme goals.
  • Track member participation and reduce dropout rates.

Qualifications and experience

  • Matric is required; a post-matric qualification is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of gender, children, and young women’s issues is essential.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in community development or activism.
  • Understanding of advocacy work and a commitment to gender equality.
