Social mobiliser (x2) – Metro East (Khayelitsha sub-district) Fixed term assignment (Reporting to Programmes Officer)

To assist and/or support the programme officer to implement the NDOH and SCI programme strategy at district and provincial level to achieve the set youth programme objectives, which includes coordinating and supporting the implementation and monitoring of HAST youth-related project plans and Soul Buddyz Clubs in relevant districts.

Key responsibilities

Demand creation

  • Support the HAST/MCWH/HP team in educating young people on SRH, HIV prevention, and gender-based violence prevention.
  • Mobilise youth through calendar events, including HIV testing, PrEP uptake, and other SRH services.
  • Create demand using community events, radio, and outreach programmes across different settings.
  • Conduct health talks and dialogues in selected facilities to support youth programmes.
  • Distribute IEC materials regularly to young people.
  • Support district DOE with the rollout of Soul Buddyz Clubs.

Co-ordination and monitoring of projects

Soul Buddyz Clubs

  • Recruit and register Soul Buddyz Clubs.
  • Implement advocacy with provincial and local government via the Raising Voices coalition.
  • Collect attendance registers and forms from clubs.
  • Distribute tools and resources to clubs.
  • Ensure clubs meet weekly and report attendance as required by Soul City.
  • Develop club activity plans with the programme officer.
  • Facilitate face-to-face and remote coaching sessions twice a month.
  • Document all coaching sessions and club activities.
  • Identify participation challenges and intervene to prevent dropouts.
  • Track attendance and support club visibility on social media.
  • Submit monthly progress reports.

Youth Zones / AYFS

  • Support the AYFS Champion in implementing the Youth Zone programme in identified facilities using AYFS tools.
  • Track client referrals, SRH screenings, and PrEP uptake.
  • Assist with organising quarterly youth campaign events aligned with the NDoH calendar.
  • Ensure accurate data collection and compliance with Soul City and DoH M&E standards.
  • Compile monthly reports using agreed M&E templates.
  • Capture and share visual/audio content with the communications department.
  • Submit monthly reports to supervisors.

Stakeholder management

  • Identify key stakeholders who can help meet club objectives.
  • Network with local partners to support and promote club activities.
  • Facilitate club meetings with key decision-makers.

General

  • Prepare reports using the correct templates when required.
  • Work closely with the programme officer to align club activities with broader programmes.
  • Explore new ways to meet programme objectives.
  • Monitor club participation and reduce dropout risks.

Qualifications and experience

  • Matric required; post-matric qualification is an advantage.
  • Experience and understanding of gender, children, and young women’s issues is essential.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in community development or activism.
  • Understanding of advocacy work and a commitment to gender equality.
