This includes:
- Contributing directly to the overall organization and business strategy both in terms of project delivery frameworks, governance and interface with the other functional units of the organisation to manage efficiency.
- Lead, manage and develop programmes team in its contribution to the achievement of the organisation’s objectives.
- Provide clear direction and support in the development and delivery of SCI strategic and donor projects.
- Ensure progress is monitored, risks identified and appropriate mitigation against non-delivery is invoked.
- Create and manage programme plans, functional milestones and deliverables, managing constraints to ensure delivery to programme timing and budget with maximum effectiveness.

Strategy and development
- Overall responsibility for Programme Management activities across the organisation
- Create and implement best practice programme management vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve organization's performance.
- Ensure that programme management strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets and which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market.
- Evaluate the challenges faced by the organisation and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities.
- Contribute to overall organisation strategy and annual budget process.
- Take ownership of the programmes management policy, guidelines, and any associated documents
- Initiate and develop creative and innovative programmes management processes.
- Determine, set and deliver goals and objectives for the department within the Business Planning Process in line with the company's strategic aims and objectives.
- Work as part of the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimise results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements.
Operational management
- Oversee and provide direction around the implementation of all campaigns and programme interventions.
- Ensure the appropriate systems and procedures are established and followed, ensuring best practices in project management are continually developed and used with appropriate Programme/Project management frameworks in place.
- Ensure that programming is evidence based and informed by ethical, high quality and accurate research.
- Ensure effective operational systems and processes to enable programme implementation.
- Monitor key performance indicators for all the projects.
- Ensure consistent quality in the delivery of all programmes, in accordance with agreed indicators.
- Ensure programme and project reviews are regularly and effectively conducted to drive plan, monitor and control the delivery of programmes to schedule, budget and to the agreed quality level.
- Oversee and ensure integration and coordination across all programs and integrated with feedback from monitoring and evaluation.
- Assess and evaluate the potential impact of national and global socio-political issues on programming.
- Keep abreast of relevant national and international research, trends, and imperatives to inform current and future programming.
- Pioneer future programme interventions in accordance with global, national, and regional sector trends.
Staff management and Leadership
- Ensure the delivery of the People Strategy within area of accountability.
- Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing holiday allowances, recruitment, training, development, appraisal, attendance, disciplinary issues and daily supervision to maximise efficient productivity.
- Motivate and coach the team to operational success.
- Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems.
- Communicate key performance Indicators (KPIs) from the strategic annual plan so that each employee is aware.
- Review, implement and update company records e.g. training matrices, performance reviews, risk assessments.
- Provide technical expertise to the team.
- Communicate with Exco on programme status, risks and issues in an appropriate and timely manner. Ensure regular and timelycommunication between project team members.

Stakeholder Engagement and Management
- Build strong working relationships with external customers and internal departments.
- Ensure and maintain strategic customer relationships, addressing issues and resolving within SLA.
- Build mutually beneficial and resilient relationships with clients and stakeholders that support long term organisational sustainability.
- Build SCI’s credibility and reputation in the sector through conducting presentations, networking with key sector leaders, publishing articles and engaging in sector debate and discussions
Qualifications and experience
- Postgraduate or equivalent qualification in communication, education, management, public health, social science or social work.
- At least 10 years’ experience in the health and/or development sector.
- At least 5 years senior management experience, including managing big grants.
- At least 5 years’ experience managing budgets and finances in excess of R 20 -50 million per annum.
- Extensive experience and understanding of social & gender justice, and broader development issues.
- Extensive experience in writing donor reports.
- Extensive experience in writing donor proposals and securing funds in excess of R10 million.
- Experience in negotiating with national government and/or global organisations at a leadership level.
- Experience in writing and presenting papers at national and global conferences.
