The Finance Intern will be responsible for assisting the Finance Manager with the day-to-day performance and monitoring of key finance functions to ensure that funds are accurately recorded and accounted for.

Key responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

  • Check that all travel related invoices are accurate and matched to a valid order and the bookings are in compliance with the travel policy.
  • Assist with checking of tax invoices from suppliers/service providers for accuracy and compliance with SARS and finance requirements for weekly payment run.
  • Assist with capturing authorised invoices from suppliers and service providers in the Sage 300 system in an accurate and timeous manner.
  • Prepare creditors reconciliations to support operational creditor payments and obtain approval of reconciliations before payments are finalised.
  • Generate the monthly debtors and creditors age analysis and obtain reasons for long outstanding amounts before submitting to the Financial Manager for review.

Bank and Payments

  • Assist with capturing receipts and payments into Sage 300 accurately and timeously.
  • Complete reconciliations for the following bank accounts in accordance with the deadline schedules, making sure that all reconciliations are signed off by the Finance Manager at month end.

  • • Assist with preparation of payment requisitions for SCI and SCBBEC and submit to the Financial Manager for checking and approval in order for payments to be released.

Financial Reporting and project accounting

  • Assist with the preparation of management accounts for the following companies for review by the financial manager:
    • Main Street 801 Pty Ltd
    • Main Street 885 Pty Ltd
  • Assist Finance Manager with the preparation of monthly journal entries after reviewing of general ledger.
  • Assist Project Accountant with receipt of supporting documents and reports from SGs.

Statutory Payments

  • Prepare SARS statutory payment submissions in SARS e-filing (PAYE, UIF and VAT) and any other reports that may be required for Finance Manager review.

General

  • Assist with filing and archiving of all payment requisitions in a structured and systematic manner to facilitate easy retrieval.
  • • Assist with periodic and physical fixed asset counts.
  • Assist with the retrieval and preparation of documentation for BEE verification on an annual basis.
  • Assist with the retrieval of documentation and samples requested for audits.
  • Assist Finance Manager with maintenance of the Sage 300 system and vendor maintenance.
  • Provide support to Senior Financial Manager and Financial Manager for ad hoc finance tasks and requests for reports or documents.
  • Ensure that Soul City Institute staff are provided with efficient and effective support/assistance from the finance unit.
  • Assist with the implementation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all deadlines are met.

Human Resources Management

  • Take ownership and accountability for all deliverables and responsibilities assigned to the Finance Intern position.
  • In consultation with the Finance Manager, identify own training and coaching requirements to achieve optimal performance.
  • Contribute to the development of a finance team with individuals who work well together and provide each other with mutual support, assistance, and cooperation.
  • Comply with all HR policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A degree, or equivalent qualification in Accounting.
  • Sage 300 knowledge and experience
