Florence Masebe is a South African actress and television presenter best known for her role as Humbulani in the SABC2 soapie Muvhango, from 2004-2009. She was in the original cast of Generations which she followed up landing one role after another including co-hosting Fokus with Freek Robinson and continuity presenting for SABC 2.

Lillian Dube

Sister Bettina: CHW team leader, retired nurse

The stalwart of Soul City she is the team leader of the CHWs. She wants to be everybody’s confidante and needs to devote more time to herself. She doesn’t know how to say NO

Lillian Dube is one of South Africa’s best loved and most seasoned actresses. She is best known in her role as Sister Bettina in Soul City from 1994-2004. She recently stared as the brave gun wielding Gogo in the Gog’Helen. Over the years she has starred in a number of local productions including My Perfect Family, The Lab and created, produced and starred in the SABC 2 sitcom Skwiza’s. She has also taken part in short film The Ring and played the role of Masibobe on the SABC 1 soapie Generations.

Nunu Khumalo

RIRI : Community health worker

Cast as Riri, she wants to get the experience and recommendation she needs to get out of Soul City and study to become a doctor. She needs to learn things are not always black and white

Nunu Khumalo is a South African actress and model best known for her starring role as Nhlanhla, in the SABC 1 youth drama series Loxion Lyric. She has also starred in the SABC 1 series Task Force and has featured in Mzansi Magic’s Isibaya. 

Tau Maserumule

Murakes: Self-employed ‘fixer’

Cast as Murakes he wants have a shop on the main road and be recognised as a leader of Soul City. He is a team player in the community.

Tau Maserumule is a gifted graduate from the Market Laboratory. His theatre work includes a one man show titled CIRCLE, which was nominated for NALEDI theatre Award 2012. This won him a Standard Bank Ovation award at the National Arts Festival 2012.

Robert Mpisi

Samkelo Cwala

Cast as Samkelo he wants his father to admire and respect him and his future successes. He wants to stop looking elsewhere for validation and to shed himself of his perfectionism.

Robert Mpisi is a massively popular actor whom many will know from the previous series Soul City in which he played Samkelo. Robert is a familiar face on local screens and has featured on programmes such as Thola, Home Affairs, Tsha and Shreds and Dreams.

Simo Magwaza

Jeff ‘Bra’Jeff’ Langa: self-made businessman

Cast as Jeff he wants acknowledgement as a community builder. He needs to realize that easy is not always the best option. He’ll do whatever it takes to get what he wants.

Simo Magwaza is a SAFTA nominated actor who has been on South African screens for over 20 years. He is best known for his television work on shows such as, Hard Copy, Home Affairs, Generations, Yizo Yizo and Backstage. Aside from television, Simo was a cast member in the internationally acclaimed, District 9.

Lerato Mvelase

Nokhanyo: Hair salon owner

Cast as Nokukhanyo she is taking care of her sister Thando. To secure her family’s future she must participate in securing the community’s future

Lerato Mvelase is a South African actress and television presenter best known for her role as Katlego in the SABC1 drama series Home Affairs, from 2005-2009. She also starred as Princess, in the SABC2 sitcom Home Sweet Home, in 2011. Also in 2011, she starred as Yoliswa in the SABC 1 mini-series Shreds & Dreams, based on the 2004 play of the same name.

Vuyelwa Booi

Poppie Langa

Cast as Poppie she wants to build a solid home for her family. Although she has given up on life she needs to have the courage to \stand up to her abusive husband and protect not only herself but her daughter Dintle.

Vuyelwa has been a familiar face on South African screens for well over a decade. Many will know her from 7deLaan where she has played the role of Alyce Morapedi since 2001. She has also starred on Broadway and has presented for SABC2’s Speak Out and Pasella.

Phiwokuhle Mazibuko

Thando: Nokhanyo’s sister, Leaner

Cast as Thando she wants to find her dream. She wants to travel the world as an air hostess. She needs to accept the reality of her life circumstances and take ownership of decisions she has made in her life and understand and accept her greatest responsibility of being a mother.

Phiwokuhle Mazibuko is a South African actress & voice over artist. She studied drama at the Market Theatre Laboratory where she obtained a Diploma in Speech & Drama in 2008. In 2009 she performed at the Sibikwa Arts Festival in a play titled ‘Tick Tock” which she co-wrote where she obtained two festival awards, best actress & best writer.

Austin Shandu

Pule Monyane: Artist/later mentor/ tutor

Cast as Pule he wants to work hard enough so he and his grandmother can leave Soul City. He wants to let go of his fear of being hurt and allow love and care in from those around him.

Austin Shandu is a South African actor best known for his role as Sdumo in the second season of the SABC1 drama series Intersexions, in 2013. He has a degree in motion picture and live performance from AFDA. Austin has appeared in a number of films including My Name is Cage, Nick Pinch Steal, Living in Limbo and Two Bucks as well as guest appearance the kykNET soapie Binneland.

Phila Mazibuko

AB Abednego: Community Health Worker

Cast as AB he has real connections with people. He is lonely. He knows many people but has no real friendships. He is a know-it-all with little to no actual life experience to back this up

Phila Mazibuko is a South African actor and television presenter best known as a location presenter who presented links from parties round the country on the SABC1 music series Live, between July 2008 and June 2010. He currently co-hosts the SABC1 lifestyle magazine show Mzansi Insider, since October 2010. He also hosted the SABC1 music show Skyroom Live, in 2013.
