As digital technologies increasingly shape how young people connect, create, organise, and engage in activism, they have also become sites where Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) is rapidly rising. Young women, LGBTQIA+ youth, and gender-diverse young people face disproportionate levels of online harassment, cyberstalking, image-based abuse, doxxing, grooming, and hate speech—mirroring the persistent inequalities they experience offline.

SCI’s 2025 campaign focuses on Feminist Economic Justice and Digital Safety as critical pillars in preventing and responding to GBV.

Key Activities for 16 Days of Activism 2025

1. Feminist Parliament – 29 November 2025

Now in its second year, the Feminist Parliament remains SCI’s flagship youth-led feminist space. Hosted in partnership with ActionAid South Africa, Young UMN, and MB Teen Lifestyle, the 2025 event will explore how economic inequality fuels GBV and position feminist economic justice as a transformative tool for prevention and long-term change.

The event will:

  • Convene 100 young women activists
  • Develop a Youth Economic Justice Charter
  • Drive digital storytelling campaigns
  • Mobilise communities on economic justice and GBV prevention

Reflection: Feminist Parliament 2023

In 2023, SCI hosted a two-part workshop critiquing the Learner Pregnancy Prevention & Management Policy through feminist and youth lenses. Partner organisations such as Black Womxn Caucus, Access Chapter 2, Equal Education, LoveLife, and MB Teen Lifestyle joined young people in raising concerns and proposing improvements to strengthen how schools respond to teenage pregnancy: The programme generated high engagement across SCI’s digital platforms, demonstrating strong public interest.

2. Engaging Men for Change – Thabazimbi, Limpopo (3–5 December)

Together with the WARD Foundation and the SIOC Community Development Trust, SCI will facilitate dialogues with men and boys aimed at shifting harmful gender norms and strengthening male allyship in GBV prevention.

3. National Partnerships Expanding Impact

SCI’s partnership with the Tears Foundation on the #BangYourPot campaign continues to gain national traction and amplify calls for urgent action against GBV. Join the #BangYourPot campaign by stepping outside, banging a pot to make noise against GBV, and posting a photo or video on social media using #BangYourPot. Tag SCI and partners, share why you’re taking part, and encourage your community to join the movement for safety and justice.

4. Youth Webinar: Confronting Technology-Facilitated GBV

On the 10th of Dec will be hosting a dialogue on TFGBV, ensuring that young people remain at the forefront of shaping digital safety solutions. This activity is building on our #Kgalemelang365 campaign, SCI’s upcoming youth webinar will equip young people with:

  • Knowledge to recognise different forms of TFGBV
  • Tools to prevent and respond to online abuse
  • A co-developed Youth Online Safety Toolkit
  • Space to lead digital activism and promote accountability online

SCI’s Commitment

Through these layered and youth-centred activities online and on the ground—the Soul City Institute continues to champion feminist advocacy, economic justice, and collective action to end all forms of violence.
