What I’ve Learned This Year as a FLAC Fellow

This year as a FLAC Fellow has been an incredible journey of learning, growth, and self-discovery. I have been gaining insights into leadership, activism, and how to create meaningful change in my community.
What I’ve Learned This Year as a FLAC Fellow

The sessions have helped me understand what feminist leadership looks like, how social justice operates, and why it is so important to challenge systems that create inequality in our society. I am learning to see how different social issues affect women, girls, and young people in our communities and how these issues intersect in complex ways.

Building Skills That Matter

The fellowship has given me the opportunity to develop essential skills in community engagement, communication, and advocacy. I am learning to confidently use my voice to speak about issues that matter, including gender equality, sexual and reproductive health rights, and social justice.

I have also learned the importance of listening, of truly understanding the needs of my community, and of translating that understanding into action. These skills are helping me step into spaces where change is needed and contribute meaningfully.

Reflection and Personal Growth

One of the most important lessons this fellowship has taught me is the value of reflecting on my own experiences. I am learning to ask myself: What can I do to contribute to positive change? How can I be a leader who lifts others while challenging unjust systems?

This reflection has helped me grow not only as a leader but also as a person. I am becoming more empathetic, courageous, and aware of the collective power we have when we work together.

The Power of Solidarity

Perhaps the most inspiring part of this fellowship is the sense of community and solidarity. Being part of FLAC reminds me that when young leaders come together to share knowledge, experiences, and support, we can collectively work towards building a more just and equal society.

This year has shown me that leadership is not just about standing in front — it’s about standing with others, learning from them, and working together to make a difference.

Looking forward, I am excited to continue this journey, to keep learning, and to keep contributing to positive change in my community.
