To the End of May: Another Soulful “Walk in the Park”

To the End of May: Another Soulful “Walk in the Park”

To close off the month of May, we once again brought our colleagues together for a powerful “Walk in the Park” an engagement rooted in feminist activism, healing, and collective joy.
To the End of May: Another Soulful “Walk in the Park”

This recent walk was more than just a stroll through nature. It was a moment of reclamation: of space, of voice, and of the right to exist fully and safely in our bodies. Under open skies and among trees that gently held our words, participants gathered to reconnect with themselves, with each other, and with nature.

Why We Walk

“Walk in the Park” is more than an activity; it’s part of our commitment to wellness and a culture of staying active. It challenges the idea that productivity is only found at a desk. Sometimes, stepping away is what restores us most. In a world that constantly demands we shrink ourselves to fit systems never designed for us, we walk to remind ourselves that we take up space with purpose.

Moments That Moved Us

This edition of the walk took us through the scenic Houghton Trail, a pathway lined with breathtaking flora and sweeping views of Johannesburg. The landscape encouraged stillness, reflection, and awe a reminder of the beauty that exists when we slow down.

Centering Mental Wellness and Community Care

The walk also highlighted the importance of mental wellness, a theme central to the work of Soul City Institute. As we continue to navigate a world still healing from the impact of multiple crises including the COVID-19 pandemic this walk stood as a quiet protest against burnout and a bold act of radical rest and restoration.

Looking Ahead

Soul City Institute will continue to host “Walk in the Park” events, creating space for conversation, connection, and collective care. Whether you join to reflect, to release, or simply to rest your walk matters.
