Standing Up Against Cyberbullying: Karabelo GBV Response Project at Mabogopedi Secondary School

On 13 February 2026, the Karabelo GBV Response Project joined Anova Health for a mental health campaign at Mabogopedi School. Our project coordinator was invited to speak to learners about cyberbullying a growing concern for teens in today’s online world.

What is Cyberbullying?


Cyberbullying happens when someone uses digital platforms to harm others. This can include:

  • Spreading false information about someone on social media
  • Sharing private images without consent
  • Impersonating someone online

Why It Matters


Cyberbullying isn’t just “drama online, it can have real effects:

  • Mental health struggles
  • Low self-esteem
  • Anxiety
  • Acting out violently
  • Risk of suicide


What to Do if You’re Cyberbullied


If you experience cyberbullying, here are some steps to protect yourself:

  • Report it to authorities or trusted adults
  • Seek help from teachers, social workers, or CBOs
  • Log off from social media when you need a break
  • Set up privacy on your devices
  • Ignore the bully and don’t retaliate
  • Save evidence for reporting

Schools Must Take Action


It’s important for schools to have clear policies on cyberbullying. Every student should feel safe both online and offline.
