Held under the theme “The Future Calls,” the engagement created a platform for young people to openly discuss the issues affecting their communities and personal lives. Key topics included gender-based violence, substance abuse, and mental health challenges that continue to impact youth wellbeing and development.
The session reinforced the message that young people are not only the future but also active agents of change who can overcome adversity through access to information, support, and community resources.
A central focus of the event was encouraging young people to know their status and take responsibility for their health and wellbeing. Participants were also introduced to various organisations and services available to support them in addressing social and health-related challenges.
By connecting youth to relevant resources, the session aimed to bridge the gap between awareness and access to care and support systems.
The event was strengthened by the presence and contributions of key stakeholders, including SAPS, the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison, Victim Empowerment Programme (VEP), Joe Morolong Local Municipality, and the Karabelo Project. These partners provided valuable insights and support, reinforcing the importance of a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach in addressing youth challenges and promoting safer communities.
The Northern Cape Youth Day commemoration in Cassel Village highlighted the importance of unity, dialogue, and collaboration in addressing the pressing issues faced by young people. Through partnerships and shared commitment, communities can continue to build environments where youth are informed, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Soul City remains committed to advancing youth development, strengthening social cohesion, and ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to build a healthier and more hopeful future.
