My Journey with Beyond the Change Foundation: Learning, Growing, and Inspiring Change

Over the past few months, I have had the incredible opportunity to be part of Beyond the Change Foundation an organization that is deeply committed to fighting substance abuse, promoting wellness, and building safer communities through awareness, support, and prevention programs.
My Journey with Beyond the Change Foundation: Learning, Growing, and Inspiring Change

This journey has not only been eye-opening, but it has also helped me grow in ways I never expected.

One of the most heartwarming experiences I had was participating in a spelling bee and reading session with young girls and boys supported by the Foundation. Their excitement and eagerness to learn reminded me of the importance of literacy and safe spaces for children to express themselves. Seeing their faces light up as they spelled out words or got lost in the pages of a book was a powerful reminder of what hope and education can do in a child’s life.

I also had the chance to speak on Mafisa FM, where I discussed my experience with the Feminist Leadership and Activism Centre (FLAC). During the interview, I reflected on how FLAC and Beyond the Change Foundation have helped me better understand the complex issues young people face today especially around gender-based violence (GBV), substance abuse, and the importance of behaviour change.

One of the most memorable events was a collaborative session hosted by Beyond the Change Foundation and Glow Organisation. We welcomed children to a fun and educational puppet show that tackled serious issues like GBV and substance abuse in a way that was creative, safe, and engaging. Watching the puppet characters share stories about making healthy choices and standing up against violence sparked important conversations with the young audience. The session reminded me how essential it is to start these conversations early, using tools that are age-appropriate and relatable.

Through all these activities, the Foundation has helped me grow personally. I’ve gained a much deeper understanding of the challenges posed by substance abuse and the importance of creating strong support systems for young people. I now see how important it is to approach these issues holistically through education, empathy, and community-led change.

Being part of Beyond the Change Foundation has ignited a fire in me to continue working with youth, advocating for safer communities, and using every platform I have to spread awareness. I am grateful for the opportunity, and I look forward to being part of many more initiatives that inspire growth, healing, and transformation.
