In a powerful show of collaboration and community commitment, Soul City Limpopo proudly honoured an invitation to participate in a Career Guidance Programme hosted by Akani Reunion and Voningani Event, in partnership with the Department of Education’s Hlanganani South Circuit. The event brought together key stakeholders dedicated to shaping the futures of young people, including representatives from the University of Venda and the University of Limpopo, who led insightful sessions on higher education pathways and career opportunities.
A Platform for Possibility
The primary aim of the programme was clear: to empower learners with the knowledge, life skills, and guidance they need to make informed decisions about their futures. With participation from nine high schools across the Hlanganani South Circuit, the event engaged learners from Grade 9 through to Grade 12—critical years where career direction and personal choices begin to take shape.
Soul City’s Role: Educating Beyond the Classroom
Soul City Limpopo played a vital role in addressing the social and health realities that directly impact young people’s ability to succeed. Through engaging and informative sessions, the team focused on:
- Teenage pregnancy prevention, highlighting the importance of education, access to services, and informed decision-making
- Drug and substance abuse awareness, equipping learners with knowledge on risks and how to seek help
- Encouraging responsible behaviour and positive life choices, reinforcing self-worth, goal-setting, and resilience
These conversations are essential—not only for academic success but for the holistic well-being of learners navigating complex social environments.
Community Matters
What made the event particularly impactful was the strong presence of the broader community. Parents, pastors, traditional leaders, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and the Department of Health all came together to support the initiative. This collective involvement sends a powerful message: guiding and protecting young people is a shared responsibility.
Looking Ahead
Programmes like these are more than one-day events—they are catalysts for long-term change. By connecting education, health, and community support, the Hlanganani South Career Guidance Programme is helping to build a generation of informed, confident, and empowered young leaders.
Soul City remains committed to continuing this work, ensuring that no young person is left without the knowledge and support they need to thrive.
