Dr Daphney Nozizwe Conco, a Public Health Specialist, is currently occupying a Senior Lecturer position at the Wits School of Public Health, teaching on Qualitative Research Methods and Designing Public Health Programs.

She has worked, mostly in South Africa with some exposure to the Southern African region, for various institutions including the government, non-governmental organisations, United Nations, a trade union and academia. She is the lead facilitator of the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) Faculty and Administrator annual workshops. Daphney also serves as the Treasurer of the Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA) and a board member of the Rural Health Advocacy Project (RHAP) and Soul City Institute for Social Justice and is an active member of the Sexual and Reproductive Justice Coalition in South Africa (SRJC-SA). Her research interests cover a range of topics including: epidemiology of incomplete abortion in South Africa, social determinants of health, eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, advocating for sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice; prevention and reduction of health inequalities, health system strengthening and management, leadership in health policy, and improving quality at the primary health care level.
