Amanda Lane, Director, Soul Buddyz series 5

Amanda Lane graduated from UCT in 1996, with a BA and Performers Diploma in Drama (cum laude). From 1996 – 2002, Amanda focused on theatre, winning acclaim as an actress and innovative theatre practitioner.

In 2003, Amanda, took time off and went to study for a year at AFDA, to acquire a more formal understanding of film and scriptwriting. Her film MISS WANDA FOOL won best film for its year. She was a resident writer for THE BOMB SHELTER’S drama series ZONE 14, (SABC 1) in 2004, honing her skills as a writer and learning more about the film and television industry.

She later worked for PANDAMONIUM PRODUCTIONS current affairs program THE BIG QUESTION as an insert director. She then returned to THE BOMB SHELTER as a story liner and directed 12- episodes of the 52 -part drama series Zone 14.

In July 2006 she script-edited and co-directed a feature film CONFESSIONS OF A GAMBLER produced by ROZA FILMS, and returned to THE BOMB SHELTER as a story-liner and director of 20 episodes of the second series of ZONE 14 a year later.

She script -edited REDEMPTION/USINDISO for TUNC productions and was head director on the series and later returned to the BOMB SHELTER to story line and script edit on JACOBS CROSS Season 3 and 4 where she directed 10 episodes.

In November 2008 she went to work in Kenya with AL IS ON PRODUCTIONS. She story-lined and directed 4 episodes of SIRI. (A drama about sex and relationships set on a tea plantation) and worked for Curious Pictures as head director on 4-PLAY in September 2009. She script edited and directed the first 4 episodes. In 2009 she also wrote SHUGA -a three-part drama about sex and sexuality in Kenya for MTV Africa.

She had written a script and directed Soul Buddyz 5. She is currently directing JACOB’S CROSS 5.

Thandiwe Nxumalo Kunutu - Manager, Children’s Series, Soul City institute

Thandiwe Nxumalo Kunutu is a manager- children’s series at Soul City Institute for Health and Development communication. She has been managing the development and implementation of the Soul Buddyz 5 television drama series. Thandiwe is a writer, researcher and an educator. Before joining Soul City Institute she was head of First Additional Language at St Stithians College.

She was previously also a lecturer, at the University of Witwatersrand in the School of Literature and Language Studies. She has written and published several books (in second language teaching). She has also co-written a short movie Transit Café flighted on SABC and a documentary called Sibusiso Nyembezi which is unpublished.
