Soul Buddyz Series 1

Soul Buddyz television is a co-production between Soul City: the Institute for Health and Development Communication and SABC Education.

sb1_tvpic161.jpgThe key topics in the 26 part television children's drama are:

  • AIDS and Sexuality
  • Trauma - intentional, which includes bullying and abuse and unintentional, including road safety and other accidents
  • Disability - especially the rights of children with disability

The drama centres around a group of South African children who meet after school in a park. They represent children from all walks of life and they form a firm bond. This group - the Soul Buddyz have to deal with issues that children are facing all the time. They help each other and work for their community, while having lots of fun.

The series was produced by Bobby Heaney Productions.

At the end of each episode there is a 2 minute sequence of real children's comments about the issues that Soul Buddyz raises - this Buddyz Buzz helps give South African children a voice about important issues affecting them.

Soul Buddyz has a responsibility to children to ensure that there is support on the ground - to achieve this we have forged a partnership with Childline. Soul Buddyz will give out the Childline number (0800 55 555) at the end of each episode. In the television series children also demonstrate how the childline can effectively be used.
