Nelisiwe Hlophe is originally from KwaZulu-Natal in Impendle, a small village outside Pietermaritzburg.  A qualified Social Worker with a Masters Degree is in Social Work (University of Natal). She has extensive experience in therapeutic interventions, counselling skills, trauma management skills, community development strategies, programme implementation and management. She has been with Soul City Institute for the past 16 years and has been part of the team that managed and implemented the Soul Buddyz club and Rise young women’s club programmes nationally.  She also managed a Global Fund programme that was implemented in Tshwane focusing on Adolescent girls and young women . She is currently responsible for overseeing the implementation of programmes in four provinces — namely Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Gauteng. She believes that to make meaningful change in womxn lives we need to address structural barriers that affect them including inequality, patriarchal norms, gender-based violence and unequal access to education and economic opportunities.
