Soul Buddyz Series 3
Now a television programme that you really want your children to watch together with YOU!
Wednesdays from 6 July 2005 – 28 September 2005
TX time: 19h00 -19h30
Soul Buddyz is a real-life television drama specifically developed for 8 to 12-year olds, with consistently the highest audience ratings in its category. Due to the tremendous success of the previous two series, SABC has moved the 18h30 prime time slot to an even better, later prime time slot of 19h00.
The new series has been adjusted to appeal not only to children, but also to the broader family, specifically the parents of 8 – 12 year olds. With strong real-life stories that affect children, their parents and their teachers, it delivers the positive message that all irrespective of age should – and can talk about issues.
It also breaks the stereotype that children are incapable of making informed choices and reinforces the message that kids can be active citizens in society. After the success of the two previous Soul Buddyz series, children voiced that they wanted to imitate their heroes in the programme. Due to this demand Soul Buddyz Clubs were set up across the country.
The Soul Buddyz Clubs have attracted 12 000 children in 1 900 clubs countrywide who are beavering away as agents for social change in their communities and in their own lives.
This year, running in parallel with the Soul Buddyz episodes, there will be a new television magazine programme called Buddyz on the Move (BoM). In Buddyz on the Move, an issue which is dealt with on the drama series, for instance HIV/Aids would be highlighted in an episode broadcast Saturday morning in BoM. In this programme, real life Buddyz Clubs and other children that are making a difference in their communities are filmed over three days. The episode’s agenda and format on how they are doing to tackle the issue is set by them. A 24 minute magazine-type show will be broadcast on Saturdays at 07h30, following the Wednesday drama broadcast
