In 2012 Soul City in partnership with the Department of Social Development produced Kwanda Talk, a follow up to the 2009 show and a travelling television factual reality programme with in-depth discussions of social issues and community development. Broadcast on SABC 1 every Thursday prime time from 21:30 TO 22:30, it is a show with communities, about communities, in those communities and is geared towards developing a space for people to access and shape government services better.
Building on the success of the Kwanda community reality show Kwanda Talk aims to:
- Promote active citizenry
- Give a voice to communities
- Work with real stories
- Provide a dynamic platform for debate on development issues
- Link viewers to services
The 13 x 24 minute episodes are shot in the five Kwanda communities and tackle a wide range of social challenges topics ranging from crime, creating safer drinking spaces to young people’s unemployment and growing small business.
Kwanda Talk Radio is a radio production that covers similar topics on five different SABC public broadcasting stations. These include Ukhozi fm, Umhlobo Wenene FM, Thobela FM, Lesedi FM and Ligwalagwala FM.
With a broader audience reach Kwanda Talk Radio provides a platform for listeners to engage further on the issues raised on Kwanda Talk TV encouraging listeners to become proactive and come up with sustainable solutions to help their communities.
