Kwanda Production Team

Series Executive Producer: Anton Burrggraaf

Anton has a prestigious track record of producing large-scale format productions such as Survivor, Deal or No Deal, Big Brother, PlayTV and Fear Factor. He is a trained drama and film practitioner and has worked in the fields of scenographic design and music. He is currently Head of Entertainment Formats, and part of the development team at Ochre Moving Pictures.

Executive Producer: Gavin Andersson

Gavin has had a varied career but since the mid-nineties Gavin has focused a great deal of his energy on corporate social responsibility initiatives. 

He piloted a Community Works programme which aims to provide a minimum employment guarantee to all unemployed people in South Africa. This draws on a community-led systems change process called the Organization Workshop, pioneered in the Brazilian Peasant Leagues during the 1960s and adapted to the African context over the last two decades through work in Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This pilot was extraordinarily successful and has been adopted by the South African Government as central to its job creation strategy.

He has used the Organization Workshop method in his partnership with Soul City and Clinic Television to produce Kwanda, a reality TV show focusing on community transformation.
 
Executive Producer: Indra de Lanerolle

Indra is one of the country’s most experienced television producers with credits including Soul City, Zola 7, Zero Tolerance, Mzansi, Kenny Makenzo and Scandal.

Indra’s programmes and films have been recognised by many international awards including an Emmy nomination, a Peabody Award, a Japan Prize and the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival. He has also received numerous South Africa awards including Golden Horns, Avantis and an MNET All Africa film award.

He was a Senior Producer at the BBC in London, producing programmes and films in over fifteen countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.

He was a founder of Ochre Media, now part of the Avusa media group, and the former head of its television division. He lectures at Wits University and is regularly asked to speak on media and communications.

The son of a South Africa exile, he has lived in Johannesburg for over a decade.

Executive Producer: Lebogang Ramafoko 

Lebogang is a community activist. She works as a senior executive for media for Soul City and is responsible for the development of the various Soul City media vehicles (television, radio and print). Soul City is an award winning and internationally recognised NGO that uses the media to communicate health and development issues.

Lebogang became Senior Manager at Soul City in 2000 and also developed the fifth multi-media television series.

She has also been the Agony Aunt on Take 5, a daily youth magazine program on SABC 1. 

In 2002, Lebogang joined SABC Education as a commissioning editor. She worked on programs such as Tsha Tsha, Take 5, Gazlam and Yizo Yizo. In the same year, Lebogang was regognised by the Clinton Democracy Fellowship and spend 12 weeks in the USA, contributing and learning how City Year, a youth service organisation enables youth to contribute meaningfully to society  through volunteerism.

She is currently studying at Harvard.

Kwanda Manager:Antoinette Ntuli

Antoinette Ntuli has a background in health promotion and community action. Before coming to South Africa, Antoinette was a founding member of the Anti-Racism Training Awareness Unit, the first of its kind in the UK.

Since coming to South Africa in 1994 she has worked for NGOs in the field of health and development. She is passionate about social justice and was instrumental in developing an international network of health equity projects based in countries of the south, and a managing editor of Global Health Watch 2.

Antoinette has played a variety of roles while working for Soul City including developing the third multi-media Soul City series, and is currently the acting head of the Media Unit where her responsibilities include managing Kwanda.
