THE EDUCATION TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT UNIT

The Education, Training and Development unit is a unit that develops training material and training courses that educates people about HIV and AIDS and other health related issues.
OUR VISION IS: To expand, deepen and sustain the impact of Soul City’s mass media work through high quality training and materials thereby making an impact on skills and information at a community level.
OUR STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES ARE: • To reach hard-to-reach people with Soul City training and
materials
especially around HIV and AIDS in all provinces of South
Africa.
• To impact on training skills and information at a community level thereby sustaining the impact of mass media • To promote the Soul City brand at community level thus
making Soul City real
• To be proactive and responsive in meeting the training needs of Soul City • To provide quality assurance for the training provided by Soul City Outreach and all our training partners
How are the above objectives realised? • By working with 18 partner organisations that are based in the nine provinces in South Africa. • By training 3 to 4 trainers from these organisations on how
to use the Soul City materials to train in
their own communities
• By providing the organisations with a budget to facilitate a set number of training and education sessions in their communities
• By making Soul City materials available to those groups and communities who are able to provide further education

The Soul City HIV and AIDS materials pack consists of: - 2 Comics, George’s Story and Simanga’s Choice available in
five languages
- A set of eight HIV and AIDS posters, designed to be used in facilitated education sessions. - 4 handbooks - AIDS in our community, Living positively with HIV and AIDS, Anti- Retroviral Treatment for Life and Know your body –your Reproductive
Health book.
1. Living positively with HIV and AIDS - Amulti-lingual video with English subtitles – The story of Lizzie and George. This is based on the story and characters from the second and third TV series of
Soul City. The story follows what
happens to Lizzie and George when they find out they
are HIV positive.
- A comprehensive user guide supports facilitators using the different materials.  |
