MEDIA RELEASE: New Soul City series set to rock Mzansi
30 August 2007: South Africa's second most watched television series is back with the eighth chapter in this gripping drama. Faithful viewers will most certainly by counting down the days to Tuesday, 4 September at 8pm on SABC1, while the promise of big name acting and music talent is set to draw an even wider audience and give Generations' viewership figures a lot of competition.
Putting their experience and major international exposure behind the Soul City brand, movie starlet Bonnie Henna and the seasoned Siyabonga Twala join the cast to add some sparkle to an already glittering cast.
According to Lebo Ramafoko, Soul City Senior Executive Media, “We now are looking at the changing realities of South Africans across the colour spectrum when it comes to the issue of HIV/Aids, a white family is introduced to the story-line, headed by veteran actors David Butler and Anna Mart Van Der Merwe. We are still telling real South African stories and Soul City is once again geared to woo viewers with dramatic plots, powerful messages and the usual twists to make for riveting entertainment.”
To reward loyal viewers, a competition will be launched offering fantastic weekly prizes and a grand prize of R75 000 towards a home makeover!
The issues of alcohol abuse, pregnancy, antenatal health, how to make the right choices when it comes to HIV and the fact that HIV/Aids does not discriminate, amongst others, are brought to the fore as the characters have to deal with the shock and difficulties of each of their situations. You'll find yourself making excuses to be in front of your TV on Tuesday evenings to laugh, cry and identify with each character as they come to realise that life may not always be what we expect.
This series also features the best in South African music talent, including artists such as Arthur Mafokate and Judith Sephuma, entrenching the series' reputation of not only telling stories that need to be heard, but also keeping viewers of all ages entertained and coming back for more.
If you've been waiting to see what happens next, your wait is over! And first-time viewers will definitely be hooked from the first episode, as Soul City on Tuesday evenings on SABC 1 epitomises the phrase, "Mzansi Fo Sho".
Soul City is developed by the Soul City Institute. The series is a public private partnership between the Soul City Institute, BP and Old Mutual.
